Bare Bone Prints

A delicate set of prints.

I have a profound appreciation for beautiful and delicate things, and this project has become one of my favourites because it is a true labour of love. I enjoyed every second of creating these prints, from start to finish, and I am especially proudof the amount of detail in each one. Everything is hand drawn.

I started by sketching the bone structures, which I shaded using pointillism. I find this technique very therapeutic, and it also gives a pleasing aesthetic appearance. After that, I drew the flowers and foliage using coloured pencils to add some colour to the black and white sketches.

The flower drawings are very small and detailed, my sketchbook is A5 for reference. I carefully cut out all of the white space from the images using a scalpel. This process was long and painstaking, but it was worth it to manipulate and weave the flowers through the bones. These pieces were made to hang from the ceiling, using the cardboard frame to tie each bone using string.

There is an elegance in the way these delicate pieces were created, capturing a sense of beauty that is both fragile and strong from the flowers and bones together. The subtle mix of colours, the fine lines, and the meticulous details invite you to look closer.
